Personal History

Scott King (b. 1975) began his music studies at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (QLD Con.) in 1993 majoring on trombone and voice and later achieved a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) majoring on trombone and Instrumental Music Conducting graduating in 1999.

His professional playing career began in Brisbane performing in various Jazz Bands and ensembles on trombone from the age of 17. Throughout his playing career, Scott has played in various Jazz, Concert and Brass Bands and held the Principal Bass Trombone chair with the Queensland Youth Orchestra under the leadership of John Curro. Scott has also played with numerous musicians such as James Morrison, Julie Anthony and Don Burrows.

Scott began his Brass Band career at a young age with the Gladstone Municipal Brass Band under the baton of Bill Barker playing trombone. He later joined Brisbane Brass under Greg Aitken playing trombone and tuba. He joined Surfers Paradise Brass as their Musical Director in May of 2011.

Scott has been an Instrumental Music Teacher with Education Queensland (now D.E.T.A or Department of the Arts and Training) for the last 21 years. He has conducted all ages from beginning students to Premier Grade Secondary students across Jazz Bands, Concert Bands and Orchestral ensembles, all the while continuing to perform as a guest trombonist and conductor across Australia.

Since the end of 2009 Scott has lived on the Gold Coast and currently lives at Tweed Heads. Previous to this Scott lived and taught music in Brisbane from 1992 -2009.
